Multicultural Day was held on Friday, March 13, 2020, at Glendale Acres Elementary School. The activity showcased the various cultures of the students who graced the precincts of the school. Cultures represented were China, Australia, Zambia, the Philippines, Jamaica, and Mexico. The children were given the opportunity to view displays from different countries and also listened to presentations.  The afternoon’s program was immensely interesting as students were given the opportunity to view dances from the counties represented.  They also saw excerpts of a day in the classroom of the Maryland Primary School, a neighboring school in the community.

Doug Berky Performs at Glendale Acres Elementary School

Submitted by Deborah Dowd

The Students and staff of Glendale Acres Elementary School were treated to a wonderful Artists in Schools assembly during Read Across America Week.  Doug Berky performed on Friday, March 6, 2020, in a school assembly.  The audience was treated to an educational and entertaining storytelling session entitled “Gems-The World’s Wisdom Stories”.  Mr. Berky is internationally known for his mask construction and his performance consisted of physical comedy, mime, mask theatre, clowning, circus arts, and storytelling.  The Glendale Acres Elementary School family is very grateful to their Parent-Teacher Association and the Arts Council for matching the grant for the assembly.  This project is supported by the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County with funds from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Cumberland County Schools and private contributions.
