Kindergarten teacher Barbara White was presented with a $1,000 check for Glendale Acres
Elementary School on August 12, 2019, by Georgia Popp from the North Carolina Chapter of the
Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA). The $1,000 was
awarded for a STEM Teaching Tool Program for 2019. Glendale Acres School will be
purchasing Family Engagement STEM packs and Learn to Code file folder games to utilize with
the students. The Family Engagement STEM packs can also be used during parent involvement
events at the school. The Glendale Acres Elementary School staff, students, and family
members are very grateful and excited! The grant money will truly be beneficial for the school,
especially due to the new implementation of a Makerspace room as well as Learning to Code
instruction taking place in the Computer Lab.

Farmer JasonFarmer Jason Performs at Glendale Acres Elementary School

Submitted by Deborah Dowd

“Farmer Jason is the brainchild of rock music legend Jason Ringenberg of Jason and The Scorchers.  Ringenberg created Farmer Jason in 2003 to entertain his own children.  The character’s popularity spread into the concert, record and TV world, winning a 2009 Emmy award.  His interactive family shows involve sing-alongs, dancing, and discussions of farm life, nature appreciation, and ecology.”

The students and staff of Glendale Acres Elementary School enjoyed an interactive program with Farmer Jason on April 3, 2019 thanks to the “Artists in Schools” project.  The Artists in Schools project is supported by the Arts Council of Fayetteville/ Cumberland County with funds from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Cumberland County Schools and private contributions.  The Glendale Acres school family is very grateful to the Arts Council and to their Parent Teacher Association for matching the grant with the Arts Council for this excellent educational opportunity.
