Grey Seal Puppets Visit Glendale Acres Elementary School

The Glendale Acres Elementary School family enjoyed a wonderful Grey Seal Puppets assembly on March 30.  The puppets shared favorite folk tales from around the world with the students, staff and parents. The Grey Seal Puppets have a famous trademark whimsical approach to storytelling and exquisite puppet design.  The company has a thirty year history and has won such honors as three Citations of Excellence from the International Puppeteers of America and the Award for Leadership in Theatre from the NC Theater Conference.

 

The assembly was funded by Glendale Acres PTA and the Arts Council.  “The Arts Council Artists in Schools program is supported in part by the Cumberland County Schools, the North Carolina Arts Council, the City of Fayetteville and Cumberland County.”

Fayetteville Mayor Nat Robertson and Cumberland County Commissioner Michael Boose Serve Breakfast at Glendale Acres Elementary School

Cumberland County Schools celebrated National School Breakfast Week from March 6-10, 2017.  Students were encouraged to “Take the Challenge” and eat breakfast in the cafeteria daily.  Those who participated could place their name in a raffle for prizes to be given away at the end of the week.  Moreover, the Glendale Acres Elementary School family was honored to have Fayetteville  Mayor Nat Robertson and Cumberland County Commissioner Michael Boose serve breakfast to their students on March 9, 2017.  The students and staff truly enjoyed this wonderful visit and appreciate their community support of education.

Two Time Parents’ Choice Award Winner Performs at Glendale Acres Elementary School

On Friday, March 3, 2017, the staff, students, and parents of Glendale Acres Elementary School enjoyed an exciting end to their fun week of “Read Across America” activities.  Traveling storyteller, writer, and artist, Vicky Town presented a highly energetic and interactive assembly for the entire school family.  The program was made possible thanks to a matching Artists in Schools grant from the Arts Council and the school’s PTA.   “The Arts Council Artists in Schools program is supported in part by the Cumberland County Schools, the North Carolina Arts Council, the City of Fayetteville, and Cumberland County.”

Artists in Schools artist Mitch Capel/”Gran’daddy Junebug”performed “Want A Story?” for the students and staff of Glendale Acres Elementary School on February 15, 2017.  As a master storyteller, he included lots of audience participation and truly brought his stories to life.  It was also a great addition to the school’s Black History Month celebration. The Glendale Acres School family would like to thank The Arts Council and their Parent Teacher Association for this wonderful opportunity. “The Arts Council Artists in Schools program is supported in part by the Cumberland County Schools, the North Carolina Arts Council, the City of Fayetteville, and Cumberland County.”

The students and staff of Glendale Acres Elementary School celebrated National Children’s Dental Health Month with a special assembly presented by Village Family Dental on February 14, 2017.  The assembly was a great Valentine’s Day treat for the students.  During the fun and educational program, the students learned lots about how to properly care for their teeth.  The Glendale Acres Academy family truly appreciates the community involvement of Village Family Dental!

Glendale Acres Elementary School’s students and staff enjoyed a wonderful assembly on Friday, January 27, 2017 presented by Ronald McDonald.  The importance and joy of reading were highlighted during the program: “It’s Book Time with Ronald McDonald.”   The Glendale Acres Elementary School family truly appreciates the community support of McDonald’s.

Mrs. McDonald's Class holding Glendale Acres SignGlendale Acres celebrated Reading Rocks on December 7, 2016 with a Walk-A-Thon around the school campus and afterwards participated in DEAR activity (Drop Everything and Read) for 15 minutes on Wednesday morning.  Mrs. McDonald’s Class led the way as the marching bears happily marched around the school campus chatting “Reading Rocks!”.

Image of Frank TillGlendale Acres Elementary celebrated it’s 50th year anniversary on November 7, 2016.  Our school Superintendent Dr. Frank Till, Cumberland County School Board member and former principal Donna Vann opened the ceremony. Former teachers, students, and parents came to talk to our students about their memories at Glendale Acres Elementary.  Judge Cheri Siler-Mack, a former parent spoke of her fond memories of Glendale Acres and how it will always be a part of her family. Students, staff, and guest ended the celebration with cupcakes provided by the schools Parent Teacher Association.
