100th Day

Glendale Acres Elementary Celebrated the 100th Day of School

Submitted by Deborah Dowd

On February 8, 2016, many of the students at Glendale Acres Elementary School dressed as if they were 100 years old in celebration of the 100th day of school.  As you can see, the students in Mrs. Barbara White’s Kindergarten Class did a great job of dressing accordingly for the special occasion, as did many other students throughout the school!  It was a fun learning day!!!

Reading is Cool at Glendale Acres School!

Submitted by Deborah Dowd

During “Read Across America Week,” the students and staff of Glendale Acres Elementary School had a blast reading and participating in daily fun activities.  They were also joined by parents, grandparents, and community members in their exciting celebration of reading.  Each day of the week was dedicated to a special activity such as: “Hats Off to Reading Day” – wear a hat to school, “Cuddle Up to a Good Book Day”-wear pajamas or sweat suit to school, “Crazy About Reading Day”-wear crazy hair and/or socks to school, “D.E.A.R. Day”-Drop Everything And Read, and “Spirit or Storybook Character Day”-wear school colors or dress like a storybook character.  On “Read Across America Day 4,” Second Grade Teacher Erica Shirley and her class were treated to a visit from Ashley Wilson of the WKML 95.7 Reading Club.  Moreover, for all students and staff, the last day of the week also included parent and grandparent readers, along with the following Guest Readers from the community: Ashley Elementary Principal, Tiffany DeCarlo, Cumberland County School Board Member Donna Vann, Cumberland County Commissioner Marshall Faircloth, United States Army Sergeant Greg Schell, Fayetteville Fireman Lieutenant Joshua Wilson , Fayetteville Fireman Jeff Johnson,  Fayetteville Police Officer Daniel Reilly, WKML 95.7 Radio Announcer Don Chase, Federal Special Investigator Christian Williams, and Attorney at Law Michael Boose. The Glendale Acres Elementary School family is truly grateful for the wonderful parent and community support of education.  Hooray to Reading!
